The Finish Line

I crossed the finished line on this piece with the black branches, which at this point at least, is still officially without a name....a most unusual state of affairs. Almost always the piece makes it's name known during the creative process and this work has had plenty of time to reveal itself to me, that's for sure. Maybe I wasn't listening....maybe it was whispered a bit too softly. In time, I'm sure I'll be told, but for now I'll just refer to it as the piece with the little black branches...rather clumsy I realize!

I'm getting excited about opening up a new Etsy shop with the daily drawings. I'm so glad to have wonderful readers and supporters out there who have given me the boost and confidence to go ahead with the idea....thank you again.  I'm proceeding a bit slowly, so I have all my ducks in a row, but I will keep you posted so you can come visit when it's officially online!  In the meantime, as the days go by, I am accumulating more of these intimate drawings on teabags.  My husband came home the other night from school announcing that he had a gift for me, handing me an old plastic bag feeling like nothing but air. Of course I thought it was a joke, but no, it was full of the teabags he'd been collecting at work!  Yippee!!  There are only so many jars of ice tea you can make, especially if you're not all that prone to drinking it!  I'm back in teabags now!

  2. Aah yes ..... the twig piece is exquisite, Patti. I have to keep reminding myself that the teabag pieces are only teabag size... Duh! Amazing!

    1. Robyn, many thanks! The teabag pieces are officially 12x9", since they are mounted in the center of a sheet of bristol board that size. Small and intimate!

  3. Yes naming pieces is hard for me too. One must be careful not to put too finite a label on something we came to in an open state. Are they really little black branches, or a metaphor or a texture study? Nonetheless, this piece is beautiful. I am enamoured by your teabag series, so fine. Is that only pencil you are using?
And you've got me eagerly anticipating your new shop and your new monthly series. I'm so pleased to hear your enthusiasm.

    1. Hi Lorraine....yes, I'm surprised the black branch piece doesn't already have a title, since the work always names itself. Yes, they are definitely a metaphor for me....now I wonder if the piece hasn't told me it's name because it's not finished....uh oh!
On the dailies, yes, it's just pencil and acrylic on a teabag adhered to bristol with matte medium. Pretty simple, but so fun and satisfying! Thank you!

  4. Gorgeous pictures! The "Finish line" has a beautiful atmosphere, and the little still-life on teabags too! I like very much the way you use the natural colors, they are so suggestive.

  5. Patti-- these are exquisite pieces-- intimate and expressive--they're reflective and offer a meditative place to stop and rest...
I love the whole concept of your daily drawings- I think it will make a beautiful and inspired series.
