Here And There

Life is getting pretty busy and I continue to struggle to have enough time in the studio, with all there is to do here on the computer.  I seem to be here more than there and I'm still trying to figure out how to create the balance.  I'm sure I could do things more efficiently here, but I don't have time to stop to figure it out...quite a ridiculous statement, I realize!  So I continue to be mostly here....

because often times, even when I'm there...

or there...

I can't relax enough to work because I'm thinking of all the things I need to do here...

But this is the thing....wherever you go, there you are!  Being in the moment is possible no matter what the situation, so I'll just have to trust that I can be one with the flow of the river at any point in time.  These pictures I just snapped of the studio downstairs (I sit here now at this little desk area just off the kitchen...how very convenient!) makes it quite clear that it's time for a bit of clean up...no wonder I can't concentrate!!!

I also want to extend a big thank you to Hazel Terry for the lovely feature this morning on her blog, The Art Room Plant! She has a wonderful blog, which I've followed for some time, and I encourage you to check it out!

We've had our first snow now, beautiful....that is, until you have to run errands and try to make your way through the fierce biting wind!!!  We are on the wind-swept plains after all. Good thing you forget, at least to some degree, from season to season, what it's like to be cold....it does come back to you VERY quickly!

If any of you gentle readers would like to share your own time management tricks and tips, I know I'd be interested in hearing them....and I bet others would, as well.  Feel free to leave comments!

Hope you all have a lovely week...I'll see you in a day or so...hopefully with some new work to share!
Cheers!

  1. Regarding the conflicts of here and there - I hear ya! My only advice to you about time management would be from recent experience : attempting to go cold turkey and stay off Blogger for over a week sounds a lot better than it is! I feel I have missed so much and will never catch up...but once I do, I think all online activity should be held to one morning and one evening session of moderate duration, and that the lid should be firmly closed for the hours between! Speaking of which...

    Have a great week, P!

  2. Gabriella! I've missed you so! Hope your health is improving and you are getting back in the swing! I'm sure it must be hard to get caught up...I missed just two or three days and it took forever to read the backlog of blogs! Yes, I need to investigate where and when the limits need to be placed as part of my balancing act. It's so good to have you back! Cheers, P.

  3. I hear ya Patti! It's something I struggle with often. I once tried this: I used a timer for the computer. Once it dinged, I had to get off.

It worked for a little bit...

Another way is to just set up a schedule. Computer work from 9-10 am and then 1-2. or something like that. But it is hard and I think when the holiday season hits and one has online shops that one needs to maintain and check up on and write emails to customers, etc., it is easy for the computer to eat up time.

    good luck!

  4. I'm working on a schedule, which is a great idea....sometimes hard to stick to, as I am my own slave driver, so to speak! We are all trying to build our businesses...which takes a lot of time and energy. Good thing I love what I'm doing!!! Thanks for your comment and suggestions, Bridgette.

  5. I know the feeling! It took me over a year to finally tidy my think-tank properly and this is how I did it. Since it was such a daunting task to actually begin I said to myself...Robyn you only have to do 10 minutes a day at full speed. So everyday I would begin and see how much I could squeeze into my 10 minutes. Amazing what you can get through in 10 minutes. This is a process I use in my kitchen too especially when I am itching to start carving. Just 10 minutes.

  6. It always makes me smile when I read northern hempishere blogs at this time of the year. Cold and full of snow, while we swelter in heat and sunshine. There is always another way of looking at things - I suppose.

  7. Hi Patti - I feel that if we could solve this dilemma; then world peace would be next! I have a different balance of work-work and art to compare; but I think the constant demand of the computer for those who are building an online business which is about their art is pretty tough. I try to leave my cruising and checking of blogs for first thing in the morning and last thing at night. I try to set aside Friday and the weekend for creating art (and weeding, and cleaning and baking and family and friends). During the week I try to keep admin stuff to Mondays - household bills, washing, groceries etc. T,W,Th are for work-work and community-work. Sometimes it even works out that way. I know setting out a bit of a schedule day-wise just helped me feel a bit more in control. Not much advice to offer tho really - just shared experiences and slightly different. Go well and take care of yourself in amongst it all. Oh yeah - exercise and eating right help too!

  8. Robyn, it is amazing how some small chunk of time can open up and expand to allow you to fill it to the maximum....you can get a lot done in 10 minutes, I'm sure! Nice suggestion...thanks!!! At least we are never lacking for things to do!

  9. Dear Anonymous from the Southern Hemisphere...nice to your comment as a reminder that, yes indeed, there is always another way to look at things. Now that I am engaged in the online world in a big way, I don't think of my spring and summer seasons mixed media pieces as so out of season....it's spring turning to summer where you are, even if not up here! Thanks for your comment!

  10. Fiona...thanks for sharing your scheduling solutions. It is interesting to see how each one of us works things out over time, coming to some degree of peace, with handling the demands upon our days. Good reminder of the eating well and exercise too, both of which are high on my list. I need to get out and walk more, but we do yoga each morning and that gives us a good start to the day! Best to you!
