Welcome to a new week! I am feeling much better, although I still have an annoying cough and my voice is shot....I sound rather pitiful, so raspy and squeaky. I suppose it will improve (uh, I hope!) when my cough really subsides. Finally have gotten caught up with stuff from the studio....posting the weekend drawings for MissouriBendMusings...
a new piece over at MissouriBendStudio...
and a second piece in this new series posted on my website. I posted the first one on Facebook this afternoon and have gotten some great feedback. With the wonderful comments about the piece made here when I showed it last week, I am most encouraged to continue. It's really a good feeling to have your own hunches confirmed by the vast network of friends who have come to know you and your work. So, here is number two in the series that I've now decided to call Notes From The Ancestors...
I've been in the studio off and on this afternoon and have a few more in the series underway. Dividing the paper into smaller sections allows for unlimited possibilities. I'm also enjoying the very muted palette and have always loved the way white, off white and beiges play off one another...fun!
My Sunday-Monday weekend is just about over, but I'm back on top of things. Time to head out to the front porch with a little hard cider and my book! Have a great week and thank you once again for reading these posts and sharing your thoughts. Best wishes!
I love Ancestors 2 - very evocative. I'm wondering if the cups on the first piece shown here might be a symbol of a cup of hard cider *smile*. Lovely work!
ReplyDeletePenny....that's a great connection with the hard cider!! Thanks so much for the compliments on the work....I love to hear that the piece is evocative...that's the intent! Hope you are having a good week.
DeleteJuly 23 is really cool, but the Ancestors no.2 is just beautiful - I don't know if you ever heard of a jewish ghetto memorial in my town, Krakow, that instantly came to my mind.

I love your work!
Thanks so much for the kind words about my work. And thank you also for including these links to the ghetto memorial...very powerful. The chair has always been a symbol for me....of identity and absence...but these are universal themes and I'm happy to know you saw the connection with beautiful piece for which you've provided the links. I appreciate your taking time to comment here...thank you!
DeleteLovely work. I love the play of the various whites and the way they carry the content...
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your cider and book. And what are you reading?(I am nosy I know, but I always love to see what other people are reading, do you?)
Annamaria....thank you so much for the kind words! Ah, I keep meaning to do a post about the author I've been reading lately....Orhan Pamuk, the Turkish author. I recently read The Museum of Innocence, which is one of my favorite books of all time and now am reading The Black Book....also just wonderful!
DeleteAnd you? I also love to hear what people are reading....I'll have to do a post in this vein soon!
P-so glad you are getting back into life and art even with a shot and squeaky voice - not nice to be knocked down. The good news is that it did not dent your creative sport. Delightful pieces - you make small the new big. Go well and be well. B
ReplyDeleteBarry....what a charming compliment....delighted to hear that I make the small the new big. That really makes me feel good, as I often find that art is big, just to be big when size matters, as they say....and the scale of the work should be in keeping with the intent of the work. I do prefer to work small, but with big ideas....or at least expanding ideas. And yes, as you say, I was down but it didn't dent my creative sport...cheers!!
DeleteYou are so welcome! By the way, I included your work on my tumblr, i hope it's ok!

Barbara....I'm honored to have you include my work on your tumblr site...thank you!!
DeleteGood to hear things are on the mend and the creating continues! I do like the Ancestors 2 piece as well - lots of interesting things to rest your gaze upon...
ReplyDeleteThank you Fiona...yes, I rather like the fact that there are different areas in those pieces to rest upon and that can interact and work with each other. More to come....tomorrow is a day off and hope to spend at least part of it in the studio!
