Nesting and News

Nothing like a little rearrangement of the nest to give you a fresh start in the middle of winter! We moved the furniture around on Saturday and did a sorely needed house-clean up.  The movie-watching room became the yoga room, the yoga room went back to being the guest bedroom and is now also the movie watching room...I mean really, how often do we have guests...not so much.  Then again, how often do we watch movies...not enough time....tv...never.  Anyway, that meant the two comfortable sitting chairs from the movie room, which were never used, got to come out into the dining room, which we now have turned into a nice little sitting room, since we moved the dining room table into the gallery....voila!!!  Here are a couple shots of the now gallery/dining room and the "was" dining room, now a charming, cozy sitting area for reading, listening to music and staring at the river.

I have a whole new lease on life with these "made new" spaces in the house...and with furniture on sliders, we moved it all in no time.  But...this is supposed to be a report on what's going on downstairs in the studio...well, this little number below is going on and going on and going on, as the tiny stitches needed seem endless.  Still a work in progress, but hope to have it finished tonight, although that's probably a dream. And this little book page hasn't told me what book it has come from, so I won't be able to tell you, but I'm sure it will be revealed in time for me post it in my shop in a day or two!

I nearly forgot to tell you the other news...Missouri Bend Studio is one of the featured studios in the spring issue of Cloth Paper Scissors Studios magazine, which should be on the newstands any day.  I got my sample copy in the mail today.  Naturally I cringed at the photos I took, second guessing every step of the way, but there it is...out in the world!

That's it from our little spot in coastal South Dakota, as we like to say, here on the banks of the Missouri River!  See you tomorrow...enjoy the day!

  2. Patti,

Change is always good! I just hope the yoga space is still intact?

Many, many congratulations on the press! It's a very tough road as you well know, but validation is important and helps propel us.

Thank you for the news and the glimpse into your home!

    Have a great week,
    Brian

  3. Hi Patti - a page from the book of forgotten forests perhaps? Now you have me pondering names! It's so lovely to re-imagine your home and its spaces and how you might use them. Congrats too on the publication; I don't think we get it here; it would be great if you could post a shot or two of the spread! Enjoy!

  7. Brian, thanks for your good wishes also...and yes, the validation is important to help keep us lifted up! Don't worry, that yoga room is better than ever...that's what prompted the whole move! We have more room for yoga in the former movie room, so we're stretching out quite nicely now...thank you!

  8. Fiona, it's definitely a page from some book about an ancient forest I think...we'll just see what I'm told in the end...doesn't usually take this long! I'll post some of the shots over the next couple of weeks! Cheers to you!

  9. Robyn...what a great eye you have...to spot that "tree-like" item in the back of that dining room/gallery shot! It is a rather tall sculpture that a former student made and the outer form is made bits of bark from a ponderosa tree! Chuffed is a new expression for me...I find it quite charming and so pleased that you are "chuffed"!!!

  10. Hi Patti - I love that your dining space is in a gallery! Food for the body and something for the eye/soul to feed on a swell! If I lived nesar you I would be knocking on your door all the time to use your spaces! Like Fiona, I am pondering names for your book page, definitely an ancient forest themes here...I'm sure the page will tell you its name soon enough, though. What struck me was that it resembles a closeup of an old map, of the sort where forests are designated by clusters of trees such as yours. But they also look like hot air balloons rising...so maybe this is the forest of floating trees? Oh - and congrats on the feature!

  13. Gabriella...if you lived near me, I would hope you'd be knocking on my door anytime you pleased!!! Our little gallery area isn't all that big, but it would be fun to have all of you over for dinner! The little forest of trees is inching closer to completion....it does sort of look like a map, as you say, and seems to be funtioning as one too....just like on a map, there are times when, the closer you are, the farther away your destination seems to be!
